In collaboration with 034 Productions, a production company in Japan, High Road Creatives announced its new movie “Crosspoint,” starring Kapamilya actor Carlo Aquino and Emmy-nominated actor Takehiro Hira.
Shot in Tokyo, “Crosspoint” revolves around the story of Manuel Hidalgo (played by Aquino), a big Filipino actor. He hits a dry patch which forces him to go to Japan where he earns a living while performing illegally at Filipino pubs there.
Then he meets Shigeru Watanabe (played by Hira), a mid-50s construction manager who declares bankruptcy due to unpaid debts and is looking for a way out.
The two characters catch a news report about a high-profile serial killer. They discuss this golden opportunity and finally grasp enough courage to chase to get the reward money and solve their problems.
“We chose Carlo dahil napaka-versatile and very good actor siya. We got the same vibes with Hira kaya kinuha namin siya. Plus, magaling ding magsalita ng English,” Ravien Bracero, the head of High Road Creatives, shared.
The multimedia company specializes in film, television, and internet content led by Bracero. They produced the short film “Nena,” which won Best Foreign Film at Japan Indies Film Festival in 2021.
Meanwhile, their producing partner, Japan’s 034 Production, is a creative studio that focuses on physical expression. It was founded by dancer-actor Sho Ikushima.
Director’s take
Japan-based Filipino filmmaker Donnie Ordiales directed the movie, saying the characters were inspired by real people he met in Japan.
He shared that everything in the film was put nicely together — from the story, sound, visual to execution.
When asked about the moral lesson of the movie, Ordiales responded: “Nothing is permanent in this world. Life can turn our lives upside down.”
Showing on October 16 in cinemas, “Crosspoint” also stars Sarah Jane Abad, Ian de Leon, Zeppi Borromeo, Dindo Arroyo, and Polo Ravales.
