Chadwick Boseman: A look at his most memorable movie performances

News of Chadwick Boseman’s recent passing from colon cancer has brought the whole world into a state of shock.

Popularly known as Wakanda’s King T’Challa, Boseman became a household name when Black Panther gained critical and box-office success. It was the first Marvel movie to win an Academy Award (Costume Design, Production Design, and Original Score) and grossed more than $1.3 billion in global box-office.

But more than these, Boseman because a prominent cultural figure not only with his iconic performance as the Black Panther but in his prolific filmography as well.

Take a look at some of Chadwick Boseman’s best movie performances:

42, 2013

Boseman stars opposite Harrison Ford in 42, where he plays Jackie Robinson, the first African American in the Major League Baseball.

Get on Up, 2014

Boseman then went on to play soul and funk singer James Brown in this biographical musical drama which earned the actor tons of critical praise.

Marshall, 2017

By the time Marshall was released, Boseman is already battling colon cancer, which makes his commitment to his roles even more inspiring. Here he plays the first African American Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. The movie focused on an early case where an African American man was accused of raping a White woman.

Da 5 Bloods, 2020

His last starring role, Chadwick Boseman played Norman in Spike Lee’s Netflix fim Da 5 Bloods. In it, he was a squad leader of African American troops fighting in the Vietnam War.

Soon to be released is Chadwick Boseman’s final film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom which takes a look at the exploitation of Black artists by White music producers during the 1920s.
