Step into a world where magic runs in the family! Walt Disney Animation Studios unveiled a brand-new trailer and poster for Encanto, introducing audiences to the extraordinary Madrigal family and their enchanted home in Colombia.
Disney invited audiences into a colorful world of wonder with the release of a new trailer and poster for Encanto on September 29, 2021.
The animated musical follows Mirabel, an ordinary young woman surrounded by extraordinary relatives, each blessed with a special magical gift.
Featuring original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a voice cast led by Stephanie Beatriz, the film celebrates family, individuality, and the magic of discovering your true worth.
Disney’s Encanto Trailer Introduces the Extraordinary Madrigal Family
Hidden among the mountains of Colombia is a magical place called the Encanto, where the Madrigal family lives inside an extraordinary house known as Casita.
Every child in the family receives a unique gift, from incredible strength to healing powers.
Everyone, that is, except Mirabel.
Although she has never received magical abilities, Mirabel remains a loving and determined member of the family.
But when the magic surrounding their home begins to disappear, she discovers that she might be the only person capable of saving everything they hold dear.
The new trailer showcases the vibrant world of Encanto, introducing the family’s abilities, charming personalities, and growing mystery surrounding their magical home.
Stephanie Beatriz Voices Mirabel
Stephanie Beatriz, known for her performance as Rosa Diaz in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, voices Mirabel Madrigal.
Unlike her relatives, Mirabel has no extraordinary powers.
Instead, she relies on her kindness, determination, and willingness to understand the people around her.
Her character offers an important reminder that a person’s value is not defined by special talents or achievements.
Sometimes, the qualities that make someone extraordinary are the ones that cannot be measured.
John Leguizamo Joins the Cast as Bruno
Alongside the trailer and poster reveal, Disney announced John Leguizamo as the voice of Bruno, Mirabel’s mysterious uncle.
Bruno possesses the ability to see the future, but his predictions have caused discomfort and misunderstanding within the family.
As a result, he has become a figure rarely discussed by his relatives.
His unusual gift and mysterious disappearance introduce another layer to Encanto’s story.
As Mirabel begins searching for answers, Bruno’s connection to the family becomes increasingly important.
Meet the Magical Characters of Encanto
The Madrigal family is filled with colorful personalities and extraordinary abilities.
Diane Guerrero voices Isabela, Mirabel’s seemingly perfect older sister, while Jessica Darrow portrays Luisa, whose incredible strength makes her essential to the family’s daily life.
María Cecilia Botero voices Abuela Alma, the family matriarch determined to preserve their magical legacy.
Angie Cepeda and Wilmer Valderrama portray Mirabel’s parents, Julieta and Agustín.
Other cast members include Carolina Gaitán, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, and Ravi Cabot-Conyers.
Together, the ensemble brings warmth, humor, and emotional depth to the animated adventure.
Lin-Manuel Miranda Brings Music to Encanto
Music plays an important role in Disney’s magical world.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, the acclaimed songwriter behind Hamilton and Disney’s Moana, composed the film’s original songs.
His music helps introduce the Madrigal family while exploring their personalities, relationships, and emotional struggles.
Rather than serving simply as background entertainment, the songs become an essential part of the storytelling.
With energetic rhythms and heartfelt lyrics, the soundtrack complements the movie’s vibrant Colombian setting.
Encanto Celebrates Colombian Culture and Storytelling
One of the film’s most distinctive features is its setting in Colombia.
The filmmakers drew inspiration from Colombian landscapes, architecture, music, and cultural traditions.
From colorful villages and lush mountains to intricate clothing and family celebrations, the movie embraces a visual world shaped by the country’s rich heritage.
Directors Byron Howard and Jared Bush, alongside co-director Charise Castro Smith, worked with cultural consultants throughout the film’s development.
The result is an animated adventure that celebrates the importance of heritage, family connections, and belonging.
A Story About Finding Your Own Magic
Beyond its colorful animation and musical performances, Encanto explores the challenges of meeting family expectations.
Although Mirabel loves her relatives, she sometimes struggles with feeling different.
While everyone around her possesses remarkable abilities, she wonders where she truly belongs.
However, her journey reveals that being different does not mean being less important.
The film encourages audiences to appreciate their individuality and recognize that every family member has something meaningful to contribute.
It’s a heartfelt message that connects with viewers of different ages.
