In December 2023, HBO GO treated audiences across the Philippines to a collection of holiday favorites, blockbuster movies, and returning television series.
From the charming romance of The Holiday to the thrilling action of Blue Beetle and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, there was plenty to enjoy.
Here are some of the highlights from HBO GO’s December 2023 entertainment lineup.
1. The Holiday: A Romantic Christmas Favorite
Nothing captures the cozy atmosphere of the holidays quite like a romantic comedy.
Starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black, The Holiday follows two women who decide to exchange homes after experiencing heartbreak.
Iris travels from England to Los Angeles, while Amanda escapes the city for a charming cottage in the English countryside.
What begins as a temporary change of scenery leads to unexpected friendships, romance, and personal discoveries.
With its comforting atmosphere and heartfelt storytelling, The Holiday was a fitting choice for December movie nights.
2. Blue Beetle: A Superhero Adventure With Heart
For viewers looking for action, Blue Beetle brought a colorful superhero adventure to HBO GO.
The film stars Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, a recent college graduate whose life changes when he encounters a mysterious piece of alien technology known as the Scarab.
Chosen as its host, Jaime gains access to an extraordinary armored suit with powerful abilities.
However, becoming a superhero also places his family in danger.
Blending action, humor, and family relationships, Blue Beetle offers an entertaining story about responsibility, identity, and the importance of protecting loved ones.
3. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts: An Action-Packed Adventure
The Transformers franchise also joined HBO GO’s December 2023 lineup.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts premiered on HBO and HBO GO on December 23, offering fans another adventure involving Optimus Prime and the Autobots.
Set in the 1990s, the film introduces the Maximals, a group of Transformers who join forces with the Autobots to confront a dangerous new threat.
Starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, the movie combines spectacular battles with a story about courage and teamwork.
HBO GO also featured the earlier live-action Transformers movies, making the holiday period a great opportunity for a franchise marathon.
4. Violent Night: A Different Kind of Christmas Movie
Not every Christmas movie is filled with cheerful carols and peaceful celebrations.
Violent Night, starring David Harbour, offers a wildly different take on the holiday season.
The action-comedy follows Santa Claus as he unexpectedly becomes involved in a dangerous hostage situation involving a wealthy family.
Instead of delivering presents, Santa must use unconventional methods to save the people trapped inside the house.
Combining dark humor, action, and Christmas themes, the movie premiered on HBO and HBO GO on December 16, 2023.
It was an unusual holiday selection for adult viewers who preferred something more intense.
5. 8-Bit Christmas: A Nostalgic Family Adventure
For viewers who enjoy family-friendly holiday stories, 8-Bit Christmas offers a nostalgic trip back to the 1980s.
The movie follows young Jake Doyle, who becomes determined to receive the most sought-after video game console of the Christmas season.
His quest leads to hilarious situations and unexpected lessons about family, childhood, and the meaning of Christmas.
Starring Neil Patrick Harris, the film combines playful comedy with a heartfelt story that parents and children can appreciate together.
6. More Christmas Movies to Discover
HBO GO’s December 2023 programming also included a collection of Christmas-themed movies and specials.
Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas joined the lineup on December 8, bringing music and festive entertainment.
A Christmas Mystery and Santa Camp arrived on December 14, while A Christmas Story Christmas and Holiday Harmony were scheduled for December 21.
These selections offered different ways to celebrate the holiday season, from family adventures to romantic and musical entertainment.
7. Rick and Morty and Other Series Finales
Beyond movies, HBO GO also featured several television series concluding their seasons in December.
The seventh season of Rick and Morty reached its finale on December 18, continuing the animated comedy’s unpredictable science-fiction adventures.
Meanwhile, Julia Season 2, Rap Sh!t Season 2, and Bookie concluded their respective seasons on December 21.
These releases provided more options for viewers who preferred binge-watching television shows over movie marathons.
